2 Months Old

I can't believe our little guys are two months old already!
Do you realize how difficult it is to get a good picture of two babies? (Cade's on the left, McKay's on the right)
They have been growing and changing like crazy over the last month! My favorite development of theirs in their adorable smiles. They've also been sleeping at night a lot better. In fact, last night McKay slept for a 6 hour stretch and Cade slept for 9 hours!!! Hallelujah! I know that might have been a fluke but Cade's been sleeping really good for a week now so we have hope.

We just love our boys so much! Here are some fun facts about each boy...

McKay:
He is 10 lbs 7 oz (7%) and 22.7" tall (28%)
Loves his bouncer
Is a morning bird
Has the cutest snort when he cries
Loves to snuggle
Is super smiley
Can get his arms out of any swaddle
Likes to have his right fist up by his face
Is really laid back

Cade:
He is 13 lbs 11 oz (77%) and 23.8" tall (79%)
Is a night owl (Notice how McKay is a morning bird. Not a good combo)
Is constantly moving and grunting
Likes to be swaddled to sleep
Will copy facial expressions, especially sticking out his tongue
Giggles in his sleep
Loves to eat and thinks he's hungry any time he's awake
Loves to go outside

Here are some of my favorite pics of each of the boys over the last month:

Hanging out after church
McKay:
The look he gives me when I put him down and start to walk away.
My smiley boy! Notice the bottom left - He loves to have that hand up by his face
Bath time! Love those big blue eyes!
Cade:
He makes the funniest faces!
Morning smiles after sleeping 7 hours straight for the first time!

Bath time! Look at that chunk!
Happy two month birthday boys! Mommy and Daddy love you like crazy!!!

Family of Four

I've been wanting to get on and blog about our adoption for a while now but have had my hands full...literally. I'm sure most know by now that we adopted the most adorable twin baby boys.
Words cannot adequate express how grateful I am that these two little boys were able to join our family! I loved them before they were born, but seeing them in the hospital for the first time I just knew they were meant to be in our family.

I have a hard time putting into words what I have felt throughout this whole experience. It's crazy to think that just less than a year ago I was feeling hopeless thinking we may never be blessed with the opportunity to be parents, and now we have become a family of four! My whole life has changed. I'm sleep deprived, my house is not as clean as it used to be, and I'm mostly confined to the house. But guess what? I'm happier than ever and wouldn't have it any other way! McKay and Cade are the most adorable babies who bring us so much happiness every day.

Thank you to the birth mom and her family as well as the birth father and his family for all their support and love. We love you all and think of you as our new extended family.

Thank you to all our friends and family who were supportive throughout this, often times emotional, journey. And thanks to all those who are currently helping with meals and a spare set of arms. We love you!

And just because they are so adorable here are some of the boys newborn photos. :)

One month old already?!?

I seriously can't believe my babies are already a month old!!! Where has time gone? I took a picture of the boys on their one month birthday in the same outfits they wore when they came home from the hospital and was blown away by how much they'd grown. Check this out!
Our 2 day old babies on the way home from the hospital
Only one month later!
Even crazier is that the boys had a doctors appointment yesterday and I was blown away how much they had grown! McKay was 5 lbs 6 oz and 18.5" long at birth. As of yesterday he was 8 lbs 6 and 21.2" long! Even more astounding was Cade's growth. He was 6 lbs 3 oz and 19.5" long at birth. Yesterday he weighed in at a whopping 11 lbs and 21.5" long. So happy that they are healthy little boys who are just growing big and strong! We love them like crazy!

Baby Showers Galore

I have amazing friends! As soon as we announced that we were adopting I was shocked at how many people offered to throw me baby showers. We've only lived in Louisville barely over a year and a half and have no family here so I wasn't really expecting much. But boy was I mistaken! Baby showers were always fun, but a constant reminder to me of what I didn't have and wanted so desperately. I would never let myself imagine what my baby shower would look like or be like. It just wasn't something I thought about...ever.
So when I showed up to my first baby shower everything just felt so surreal! I remember thinking "this can't be real" as I was opening up all the adorable gifts. Everyone was so excited and wanted to know all the details of how this adoption came to be. It was fun sharing our story and celebrating with all our friends from the first ward we lived in when we moved to Louisville. Thank you to everyone who came and partied with us and to Krystal Marks for hosting a great shower!
My friend Kathrine is the master crocheter and always makes the cutest things for baby showers! Love the sock monkey hats and little booties she made.
We played a diaper changing game to see who could diaper a stuffed animal the fastest. I was the runner up! Not bad considering I was one of very few that didn't already have children :) That will be a good skill to have with twins.
My second shower was about a week after the first and was hosted by my wonderful relief society president Vicki. This shower mostly consisted of friends from our current ward and I couldn't believe how many people came to support our growing family! I was blown away by everyone's generosity and felt so overwhelmed with gratitude. As with the previous shower I really wish I had taken a picture with all my guests, but I guess you live and you learn. Here are a few pictures I did get though from this shower.
Vicki had the cutest decorations! The shower looked like it was straight out of Pinterest! :)

You can tell how spoiled I was by the huge stack of tissue paper that Erin so kindly organized for me.
Love this wreath that my friend Lindsey made for Cade and McKay's room. Its hanging on their door and says "Welcome Home" in the middle.
As if those two showers didn't spoil us enough my coworkers planned a surprise baby shower the day before I went on maternity leave. I can usually figure out surprises but I had NO idea that they were planning this! Two of my coworkers came to the office and decorated after hours the night before so when I walked in I could be surprised.
This was the first thing I saw as I walked down the hall towards my desk.
My desk was decorated all cute
At this point I was pretty excited but still had no idea what was in store for me. I was thinking they just decorated and a few people brought presents but all throughout the day there were more and more surprises.
Around lunch time people started bringing out food and I realized that they had planned a big potluck! There was so much great food and really cute platters as well, like the fruit baby carriage and cute personalized sugar cookies.

As I was finishing eating a TON of my coworkers started bringing in gifts for me to open! I had no idea that so many people were involved in this surprise baby shower and was so excited to open all the wonderful gifts! We got some amazing things and lots of diapers and wipes. Thank you to all my wonderful coworkers!
Wish someone would have told me to at least look cute that day but whatever. Nothing like a wet ponytail and a ribbon to try to make yourself feel cuter! :)

Such a fun day!

Not to leave out all our friends and family in California and Idaho who have shipped us wonderful gifts and gift cards. We love you all too and wish we lived closer so we could have celebrated with you as well! We finally feel like we are ready for these babies and that's mainly due to our wonderful friends and family who have been so thoughtful and supportive.  We can't wait for everyone to meet the babies!
PS- They are coming next week! WOOHOO!

We have a nursery!

We officially have a nursery! I'm so happy with how it turned out. I had so many things I wanted to create and of course Jeremy made sure I got just what I wanted. :) It means so much more to us now when we walk into the nursery and see all the items that we made for our boys. So without further ado here are some pictures of our nursery.
Baby McKay's crib
Baby Cade's crib
Jeremy made the frame and cut out the letter and I made the flags

I saw these cute mobiles on Etsy and decided to make my own. I love how it turned out!
Ikea spice racks, spray painted and turned into book shelves.
Dresser and gallery wall
We framed some printables we found online. I provided Jeremy an outline of a whale and he cut it and painted it for me. Love it! The circle frames were made by Jeremy's grandpa. We just painted them and put scrapbook paper in back.
Jeremy decided it would be cool to spray paint our formerly black lamp. I have to admit it turned out pretty cute. The wooden cars and trains are things Jeremy's grandpa made.
Floor rug complete with cars and trucks. Jeremy can't wait until they are old enough to play cars with him! :)

I'd still like to put up cute curtains and maybe crib skirts but we've come a long way in a short time. Just about a month ago it was a pink and purple striped bedroom. I love this much better! Can't wait for them to get here!
